Animal-loving children will roar approval of photo book

What it is: A large book (about 15 inches high) with close-up photos and information on more than 20 zoo animals, including a giraffe, zebra, elephant, meerkat, tiger, camel, anteater and hedgehog. Each photo includes questions about the animal that help kids analyze the photo ("Can you see that this sea lion has big round eyes? Whiskers? They are made of keratin, just like human fingernails.") and interesting facts about the creature. Readers also learn the name of the particular creature photographed (the sea lion’s name is John) and how old it is. The book was first published in Japan, and was edited by the director of the Tokyo Zoo.
Why we like it: The photos are absolutely remarkable. You’ll see gorgeous details of animals most of us will never really get very close to. This is a great choice for any animal-loving kid and will undoubtedly inspire your own trip to the zoo.
